Washing Before Staining

Stain won't hold onto dirty or graying wood, so every job starts with a wash. We use low pressure to avoid splintering the grain, since wood is softer than it looks under a pressure washer.

Wood Brightener

After washing, we apply a wood brightener that neutralizes the tannins causing that gray, weathered look. It brings the natural color of the wood back before any stain goes on.

Letting It Dry Fully

Wood needs to dry all the way through before staining, usually twenty four to forty eight hours depending on the weather. Staining over damp wood traps moisture underneath and the stain fails early.

Applying The Stain

We apply stain with a sprayer for even coverage, then back brush it into the grain by hand so it soaks in instead of sitting on top. This is what keeps a stain job from peeling.

Choosing The Right Stain

Solid stains cover more of the wood grain and last longer, while semi transparent stains let more of the natural wood show through. We'll walk you through which one fits your deck.
