A proper mulch bed sits two to three inches deep, pulled back slightly from the base of shrubs and trees. Piling mulch against a trunk traps moisture against the bark and invites rot, which is a mistake we see a lot in DIY yards.

Most shrubs are best pruned during their dormant season rather than mid growth, which is when a lot of homeowners make the cut. Timing it right means healthier regrowth and a shrub that holds its shape longer.

Seasonal Cleanups

Spring cleanup clears winter debris and gets beds ready for the growing season. Fall cleanup is about getting leaves and dropped branches handled before the first freeze locks everything in place.
